About the Journal

Insan Kamil: Journal of Islamic Thought and Values is a double-blind peer-reviewed journal published by Aliansi Transintegrasi Lektur Agama dan Sains (ATLAS), Indonesia, twice a year, in June-Desember. The journal is dedicated to advancing scholarly discussions on Islamic thought and values, with a particular emphasis on the concept of insan kamil (the complete or perfected human being) as a central ethical, spiritual, and intellectual ideal in Islam. It seeks to explore how Islamic teachings shape human character, moral responsibility, and the pursuit of holistic excellence in both individual and social life. The primary aim of Insan Kamil is to provide a platform for interdisciplinary research that examines the development, interpretation, and application of Islamic values in contemporary contexts. The journal encourages contributions that engage critically with classical and modern Islamic thought while addressing current global challenges, including ethics, social justice, spirituality, education, and human development. It promotes integrative approaches that bridge normative Islamic teachings with empirical realities, fostering a deeper understanding of how Islamic values can inform constructive engagement in diverse societies. The journal’s scope encompasses a wide range of disciplines within Islamic studies and the humanities, including Qur’anic studies (tafsīr), ḥadīth, Islamic theology (kalām), Islamic philosophy, Sufism, ethics, and intellectual history, as well as education, psychology, sociology, cultural studies, and political thought. Special attention is given to themes such as character formation, spiritual refinement, moral philosophy, Islamic pedagogy, and the role of religion in shaping personal and collective identities. All submissions are welcomed as long as they contribute to the articulation and contextualization of Islamic thought and values in relation to the ideal of insan kamil.
